Oct. 18, 2024 – Two weeks into the Region 1-7A high school football season and the Horn Lake Eagles find themselves among the top teams in the standings at 2-0. That comes after Friday’s impressive 35-0 victory over the Hernando Tigers at Horn Lake High School.

The Eagles, now 6-2 overall and 1-1 in region games, scored quickly to take control of the contest against the Tigers, now 2–5 overall and 0-2 in region contests.

Taking the opening kickoff and returning it near midfield, Horn Lake needed just three plays before running back Floyd Sinegal broke through for a 12-yard run for the first score of the game. The snap on the extra point try was fumbled so the score remained 6-0 Eagles at that point.

Horn Lake increased the lead with 6:59 left in the quarter on a 15-yard pass play from Jason Edwards Jr. to Jamir Jackson for the touchdown. The extra point kick staked the Eagled to a 13-0 lead.

The score stayed at that point until the final minute of the first half, when Demarkus Crain found paydirt with 39.1 seconds left for the third score of the night. Horn Lake went for two after that touchdown and was successful with a short run from Linkin Sanders.

Two more Horn Lake touchdowns sealed the deal in the third quarter.

A 47-yard return of an interception by Sabin Williams made the score 28-0 and the final points of the night came with 1:02 left in the quarter on a seven-yard pass completion to Jordin Scott.  After Scott’s touchdown, the continuous clock rule with the 35-point lead went into effect and continued through the rest of the game.

With the win, Horn Lake is now in with a bunch of teams at 1-1 in region play, all one game behind first-place Oxford.

Next week, the Eagles travel to Lewisburg to face the Patriots while Hernando faces a challenge at home against DeSoto Central.  Both games are on Friday at 7 p.m.
