Former Northwest basketball star Calvin Madlock inducted into Sports Hall of Fame
SENATOBIA, Miss. — Northwest Mississippi Community College honored basketball alumnus Calvin Madlock as one of six inductees into the Northwest Sports Hall of Fame during a ceremony on Oct. 16.
The induction was part of the Northwest Foundation’s annual Homecoming celebration at the Haraway Center on the Senatobia campus.
Madlock, a native of Sardis, Mississippi, played for the Rangers from 1979-1981. Under coach Kenneth “Cat” Robbins, he helped lead the team to a combined 55-7 record and two division titles.
As a sophomore, Madlock averaged 22 points and 12 rebounds per game, guiding the Rangers to a 22-6 overall record. His performance earned him All-MACJC and All-Region 23 honors.
Following his time at Northwest, Madlock transferred to Northwestern State University. In 2013, NSU recognized his contributions by selecting him for the “Fab 50” all-time basketball team as part of the university’s 100-year celebration of basketball.
Madlock pursued a professional career as an undrafted rookie, playing in the 1984 NBA Summer Pro League in California before an injury ended his professional prospects. He continued to compete alongside NBA players with the Cheaters.
Today, Madlock serves as the chief director for the Information Technology Department at the Santa Monica Community College District in California. He is also the president of the Heights at Ladera Board of Directors and is involved with the Weingart YMCA, the University of Irvine Advisory Board, and the Boys-to-Men Club of Los Angeles.
