Lewisburg ousts Hernando; Center Hill and Northpoint win volleyball playoffs

Lewisburg won the county showdown with Hernando, Center Hill swept Saltillo and Northpoint Christian defeated Lausanne in girls varsity volleyball playoffs Thursday, Oct. 8. Northpoint also beat Okolona in football, while its girls soccer team lost a playoff match at Evangelical Christian.
Volleyball: Three playoff victories
Lewisburg defeated visiting Hernando 3–1. The Patriots dropped the opening set 25–16, then won 25–23, 25–21 and 25–13, according to the published playoff scores. The victory sends Lewisburg into its next Class 7A playoff match; Hernando’s postseason run ends with the loss.
Center Hill advanced in Class 6A with a 3–0 home victory over Saltillo. The Mustangs won 25–10, 25–20 and 25–23, completing their second consecutive playoff sweep after Tuesday’s win over Callaway.
DeSoto Central fell 3–1 at Germantown in Madison. The Jaguars lost the first set 25–22 and took the second 25–22 before Germantown won the final two, 25–21 and 25–18. DeSoto Central had reached Thursday’s round by outlasting Madison Central in five sets.
Lake Cormorant lost 3–0 at Neshoba Central, with the Rockets winning 25–13, 26–24 and 25–20. The Gators pushed the second set beyond 25 points but could not secure it. Their match totals included 18 kills, seven serving aces, 50 digs and 18 assists. Laylie Moore and Kinsley Stevens had seven kills apiece, and Micayiah Thompson recorded 21 digs.
Northpoint earned a 3–1 playoff victory over Lausanne Collegiate, improving its posted record to 28–3.
Monday, Oct. 12, brings the next posted matches for the two public-school winners: Lewisburg hosts Germantown, with the start time not yet posted, and Center Hill visits Neshoba Central at 5:30 p.m. Mississippi time.
Football: Northpoint wins by 20
Northpoint defeated visiting Okolona 34–14 in Thursday’s varsity football game in Southaven. The Trojans’ next scheduled game is Friday, Oct. 16, at Evangelical Christian, with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
Friday’s posted football schedule has DeSoto Central at Lewisburg, Center Hill at Grenada, Olive Branch at Saltillo and Tupelo at Southaven. All four are scheduled for 7 p.m. Mississippi time on Oct. 9.
Girls soccer: Northpoint falls at ECS
Northpoint lost 9–1 at Evangelical Christian in Cordova, Tennessee, in a girls varsity playoff match. The defeat leaves the Trojans with a posted 7–8 record.

Northpoint’s Oct. 1 girls soccer match against Overton remains result not yet reported. County varsity finishes from the Oct. 3 Frank Horton cross-country meet also remain unverified, along with earlier Lewisburg girls golf and DeSoto Central swimming results.
