Bennett Named HBCUAC Newcomer of the Week
HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. — Rust College forward Lauren Bennett has been named the HBCU Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) Newcomer of the Week for Jan. 5–11, conference officials announced.
The honor follows a historic individual performance against Fisk University, where Bennett recorded a “20-20” game, finishing with 24 points and 21 rebounds. The double-double showcased Bennett’s interior dominance and her ability to anchor the Bearcats on both ends of the floor.
This marks the first weekly conference honor for Bennett, who has quickly established herself as a cornerstone of the program during her debut season. Her emergence comes at a critical time as Rust College navigates its inaugural year of competition within the HBCUAC.

The Bearcats (6-8, 3-2 HBCUAC) look to capitalize on Bennett’s momentum as they return to Holly Springs for a three-game homestand. The stretch begins Wednesday, Jan. 21, against Arkansas Baptist College.
Rust will then host Talladega College on Thursday, Jan. 22, for “High School Night,” before concluding the week against Voorhees University on Saturday, Jan. 24.
