Americans head to Columbus to meet the Rapids

The Memphis Americans men’s and women’s NISL soccer teams travel to the Columbus (Georgia) Rapids for the third match of the season on Friday, Jan. 7 at Columbus Civic Center in Columbus, Georgia. Kickoff for the doubleheader is set for 4:30 p.m. CST.

In the Americans’ most recent action, the men’s team defeated the Rome Gladiators 6-3, and the women’s team took home the victory with a 5-4 win. 

The men notched goals from five players, with Mike Scharf scoring twice. After being tied in the first period, the women’s team gained momentum to lead the remainder of the match. The win was another team effort with five players securing goals, and was also a notable match on the defensive front for goalkeeper Angel Hailey. She tallied 19 saves out of 23 shots attempted.

Columbus is seeking its first win of the season against the Americans to end its current two-game losing streak. The match against the Memphis Americans will be the second meeting between the two teams.
