Woman Seriously Injured in Suspected Dog Attack in Holly Springs
HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. — A woman was seriously injured in a suspected dog attack early Tuesday morning in Holly Springs, according to the Holly Springs Police Department.
Police said officers responded around 5:20 a.m. on March 3 to the area of Highway 178 East near the eastern city limits after receiving a report of an injured person.
When officers arrived, they found a partially clothed woman lying in a shallow ditch with multiple large lacerations covering much of her body. The victim was conscious and told officers she had been attacked by dogs.
Emergency medical personnel treated the woman at the scene before she was airlifted to Regional One Health in Memphis for further treatment.
Investigators have since interviewed a person of interest believed to be a possible owner of the dogs that may have been involved in the attack. Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
Authorities have remained in contact with the victim at the hospital as well as her family members in Oxford. Officials said they are thankful the victim is now able to speak with investigators, as there were no reported witnesses at the scene.
