Whataburger opens in Hernando

Hernando joined the Whataburger World on Tuesday as the latest location for the fast-food chain officially opened and had a ribbon cutting ceremony featuring city and restaurant officials.

The restaurant, located at 630 East Commerce Street, is the fourth DeSoto County Whataburger to open since the first one opened in April 2023 on Goodman Road in Southaven. A second opened later that year on Getwell Road and Horn Lake joined the franchise on Goodman Road West earlier this year.

Whataburger is a popular American fast-food chain specializing in burgers, particularly its signature “Whataburger,” known for its distinct size and customization options.

The franchise was founded at Corpus Christi, Texas in 1950. The first burger sold for 25 cents and the patty was larger than typical burgers of the time.

The current headquarters of Whataburger are located in San Antonio, Texas and there are now over 1,000 restaurants operating, with 14 situated in Mississippi,

Whataburger’s mix of nostalgia, regional pride, and adaptability has made it a beloved institution and a growing national brand.
