West to lead national Democratic women
June 11, 2025 – A DeSoto County Democrat is the new leader of the National Federation of Democratic Women, or NFDW. Lovie West was selected during the group’s annual convention in St. Louis. Missouri.
In her first remarks, West emphasized the organization’s role as the premier network for Democratic women nationwide.
“Whether you’re from a red, purple, or blue state—if you’re ready to energize, organize, and empower women, there’s a place for you in NFDW,” she said. “Together, we can protect vital programs like Medicare, Medicaid, and SNAP, and fight for equitable education in every zip code.”
The NFDW represents 33 Democratic federations across the United States and Puerto Rico.
West was the founder and first president of the DeSoto–Marshall County Federation of Democratic Women. She also has held the title of Secretary for the DeSoto County Democratic Executive Committee.
Her background indicates a passionate commitment to Democratic ideals—especially around gender equity, civil rights, and community leadership development.
