Walls Listening Sessions Set for Monday at 10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Two more Walls listening sessions are scheduled for Monday, Oct. 19. Residents of the northwest DeSoto County town will have another chance to tell Mayor Keidron Henderson how they want Walls to grow. The sessions come weeks after a proposed industrial rezoning stirred fears that a data center could come to town.

According to the Town of Walls, Monday’s sessions are at 10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. The final session is Saturday, Oct. 24, at 10 a.m.

Walls Listening Sessions Schedule and Registration

  • Monday, Oct. 19: 10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, Oct. 24: 10 a.m.
  • Registration: Required for each session, first come, first served. Registration for a session closes once it is full.
  • Questions: Walls Town Hall, 9087 Nail Road, 662-781-1282

The town’s announcement says registration is required because Town Hall has limited seating. The DeSoto Times-Tribune reported after the first session that the Oct. 19 meetings would be held at the Walls municipal courthouse. Residents should confirm the location with Town Hall when they register.

Why the Sessions Were Called

Henderson announced the sessions in a letter to residents after weeks of questions about the town’s future. In September, the Walls Planning Commission rejected a request to rezone about 1,200 acres for industrial use. Residents opposed the change, saying it could open the door to a data center like the xAI facilities in nearby Southaven.

“Over the past few weeks, some of you have raised questions and concerns about the future of our town. I want you to know that your voices are being heard,” Henderson wrote. He added that his administration’s commitment “is to listen rather than silence.”

Henderson has said that no data center developer has approached the town. He has also said that no non-disclosure agreements exist between the town and developers.

What Residents Said at the First Session

The first session was held Monday, Oct. 12. According to the DeSoto Times-Tribune, residents pressed town leaders on transparency and on whether a data center deal was already in the works. Some speakers also noted that the land in question may be historically significant. Alderman Keith White said a data center in Walls “is a long shot.” Henderson said he would consider everything residents told him.

Residents who could not attend the first meeting can still register for Monday’s sessions or the Oct. 24 session.
