Victim shot trying to reclaim stolen vehicle in Southaven
One person is being treated at Regional One Health in Memphis after a Friday morning shooting incident in Southaven.
Officers were called to Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto Friday morning, April 7, regarding a victim with a gunshot wound. When they arrived it was learned the unidentified victim had been shot as many as five times.
Police said the victim lives in the Stone Creek subdivision and discovered that person’s 2021 Dodge Charger had been stolen. It was learned the vehicle was at the Luxe of Southaven apartments and went to get it back. However, on arrival, the car owner and four suspects confronted each other and the owner was shot.
The victim has since been taken to Regional One for treatment and at last report was in surgery.
Police officials have offered a reminder that the best method to handle a stolen vehicle remains contacting the police department. Law enforcement can quickly share information with other agencies and have it entered into the National Crime Information Center.
If you have the ability to track your vehicle, share that with the responding officers as quickly as possible. This often can lead to a quick resolution of the incident.
The Southaven Police Department strongly recommends people not chase or confront the suspects in any manner whatsoever.
Police have released two photos from this morning’s incident, noting the photos are not of high quality but the one suspect is wearing a hoodie with a distinct pattern on it. Anyone with information about the suspect’s identity is asked to call the Southaven Police Department.
