December starts on the first, not the twenty-fifth, and in DeSoto County the countdown is half the fun. DeSoto County families want an advent calendar that gives a child one small moment every morning: a magnet on a tree, a new gemstone, one more LEGO build, a horse for the stable. These five well-reviewed advent calendars cover DeSoto County kitchens and living rooms, from a reusable wooden tree for the youngest kids to buildable LEGO countdowns for older ones, and every one of them has to arrive before December 1 to do its job.
Why DeSoto County Families Love Advent Calendars
A good advent calendar turns waiting into a daily ritual. DeSoto County families counting down with kids want surprises sized for small hands, pieces that do not vanish after one morning, and a calendar that fits the child’s age and interests rather than a box of candy they will forget by New Year’s. A reusable calendar comes back every year; a buildable one leaves a finished scene on the shelf; a science calendar leaves a rock collection. Every pick below runs 24 days, and every one of them is a morning routine, not just a decoration.
1. Melissa & Doug Countdown to Christmas Wooden Advent Calendar, Magnetic Tree
The reusable pick for little kids. A wooden magnetic tree with 25 magnets: one ornament a day, plus a star for the top, and the whole thing packs back into its attached storage box for next year. No candy, no tiny parts to lose, and a DeSoto County toddler can do it alone, which is the point on a busy school morning.

Ages 36 months to 7 years; screen-free, reusable year after year
2. NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC Gemstone Advent Calendar, 2025
The science pick. Twenty-four polished gemstones, one a day, from agate and tiger’s eye to sodalite and blue calcite, with a collector’s pouch to keep them safe. The final day is a mini dig brick holding a rose quartz specimen to unearth like a real geologist, and the set includes jewelry settings so a DeSoto County child can wear what they collected.
24 gemstones to open each day, including agate, green aventurine, hematite, sodalite, turquenite, tiger’s eye, and blue calcite, according to the listing

The wizarding pick. Twenty-four buildable surprises for ages 7 and up: 278 pieces, 8 minifigures in festive Hogwarts Christmas sweaters, 6 buildable figures including Hedwig, Buckbeak, and Aragog, and 10 mini builds from the Sorting Hat and a Hogwarts acceptance letter to Bertie Bott’s beans and the Monster Book of Monsters.

The galaxy pick. Twenty-four toys for ages 6 and up, including C-3PO and BB-8 minifigures, tiny ships, and characters in festive outfits, in a calendar that turns December into a Star Wars countdown. It is the calendar for the DeSoto County child who already has a LEGO bin, because every day’s build slots straight into the collection they already play with.

5. Schleich Horse Club Advent Calendar: Sofia’s Winter Surprise (99012)
The horse pick. Thirty-six toys behind 24 doors: a poseable Sofia figurine, horses, miniature animals, and stable accessories for a winter horse-club story that builds day by day. It is the calendar for the DeSoto County child who plays horses year-round, and every piece keeps working in the stable and barn sets they already own.

24 doors; winter Horse Club theme; ages 5 and up

Buy for the age at the table: The magnetic tree suits ages 3 to 7, the Schleich calendar starts at 5, the LEGO Star Wars set at 6, and the Harry Potter set at 7. A calendar below a child’s age bores them by week two; one above it frustrates them on day one.
Order before December 1: An advent calendar that arrives December 5 is a box of catch-up. DeSoto County families should order in November, open the box to check for damage, and put it somewhere the kids will see it first thing on December 1.
One calendar per child beats one to share: Two children sharing one calendar argue over whose door it is. A reusable tree for the youngest and a buildable calendar for the oldest costs less than a month of morning arguments.
Check what is left after Christmas: The tree comes back next year, the gemstones become a collection, the LEGO builds join the bin, and the horses join the stable. A calendar that leaves something behind is worth more than one that leaves only wrappers.
Final Word
For most DeSoto County families, the Melissa & Doug magnetic tree is the smart first buy for little kids: reusable, calm, and done in two minutes a morning. Older kids get a real countdown from the LEGO Harry Potter or Star Wars calendar, the National Geographic gemstone calendar is the science pick, and the Schleich Horse Club calendar is the one for the horse-mad child. Whichever you choose, buy it now, hide it until December 1, and let the countdown do the work.
