Stolen Vehicle Pursuit Ends in Southaven Arrest, Second Suspect Still at Large
SOUTHAVEN, Miss. — A Memphis police pursuit of a stolen vehicle ended in Southaven Tuesday evening, with one suspect in custody and another still at large after a chase that crossed state lines.
According to authorities, Memphis Police Department (MPD) officers attempted to detain two suspects at an Exxon gas station at Horn Lake Road and South Third Street around 7 p.m. Police say the suspects were inside a stolen vehicle when they rammed an officer’s car and nearly struck officers while fleeing the scene.
Law enforcement pursued the vehicle into Southaven, where the suspects abandoned it near Rasco Hills Drive and Horn Lake Road. Both fled on foot.
Southaven Police Department quickly apprehended one suspect, identified as Mario Oliver, age 38, of Memphis. He is being held in the DeSoto County Jail awaiting extradition back to Memphis. Oliver also faces additional Southaven charges, including receiving stolen property, possession of a firearm by a felon, and possession of a stolen firearm.
The second suspect remains at large, and no description has been released.
As of 9 p.m. Tuesday, MPD said its investigation into the Memphis offenses remains ongoing.
