Southaven swearing-in celebration date set

The City of Southaven has announced the date and time for the swearing in of the Board of Aldermen and Mayor Darren Musselwhite for the next four years.

The ceremony will take place on Monday, June 30, at 4 p.m. It will be held on the front lawn of the Snowden House, next to the BankPlus Amphitheater.

With no Democratic challengers for the June general election, an all-Republican board was voted in during the April primary, which negated the need for a general election vote.

In addition to Musselwhite being reelected, six of the seven incumbents were reelected. Ward 1 alderman Kristian Kelly did not seek reelection and Judy Jenkins-Lewis won the primary vote to gain that seat on the board.

Those reelected are Aldermen-at Large George Payne, along with Charlie Hoots (Ward 2), William Jerome (Ward 3), Joel Gallagher (Ward 4)), John David Wheeler (Ward 5), and Raymond Flores (Ward 6).

The four-year terms of the Board of Aldermen and of Musselwhite as mayor will officially begin the next day, on Tuesday, July 1.
