Southaven readies for Springfest celebration

Carnivals, midway rides, barbecue cooking contests, and a celebration of 44 years of Southaven are about a month away when the city again holds its Springfest 2024.

This year, Springfest will be held from April 23-27 at Snowden Grove Park.

One of the feature events for the week is the annual barbecue cooking contest, which is a dual-sanctioned event through the Memphis Barbecue Network (MBN) and the Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS).

Team Applications and all the Rules for the Mississippi State Barbecue Cooking Contest are on our website at www.southaven.com

Kristi Faulkner, Springfest organizer with Mayor Darren Musselwhite’s office, said the week will be packed with activities.

“We will have another fantastic Carnival Midway and lots of delicious fair food, from corn dogs to fried Oreos and funnel cakes, to ribs, turkey legs and Italian sausage, to fried pickles, catfish, BBQ Nachos and more!” Faulkner said

Carnival “Wristband Nights” are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The carnival midway opens at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday with free admission at the gate, and $30 Carnival Wristbands may be purchased inside the Carnival area for unlimited rides.

On Friday and Saturday, Springfest admission at the gate is free before 12 noon on Friday and  Saturday, and Carnival tickets will be for sale in the Carnival area: $1 each, or 24 tickets for $20.00.  After 12 noon, admission cost is as follows:

  • Free – 10 years & under
  • $10.00 – 11 years & up

The BankPlus Amphitheater also kicks off the 2024 concert season during Springfest with Hozier’s Unreal Unearth Tour Thursday, April 25.  Hozier is an Irish musician and songwriter who wrote the song, “Take Me to Church” in 2013, in between playing open mic nights in Dublin, Ireland. His extended play version of the song appeared on the Billboard 200.
