Southaven police help stop three Memphis robbery/shooting suspects
July 8, 2025 – Memphis police report three suspects have been arrested in Southaven following a pursuit triggered by a shooting and a robbery that was ended across the state line in Mississippi.
Memphis officers responded shortly before 6:30 p.m. Monday evening to a shooting at the Smile Mart, 704 Waring Road. A male victim was shot and another male victim was injured in a fight. Both victims were taken to a hospital in non-critical condition.
According to Memphis police, officers were advised that the two victims arrived in the area to purchase drugs. When they arrived, they were told to come inside the Smile Mart by three suspects. One of the suspects then pointed a gun at the victims and demanded the victim’s bag. The suspects and the victims got into a fight, and the suspect shot one of the victims.
The three suspects then got into a black SUV as officers arrived on the scene and the officers tried to stop the vehicle, but it refused.
A pursuit was authorized, according to police and the car proceeded into Southaven. With the assistance of the Southaven Police Department, the suspects eventually were stopped in the 8600 block of Swinnea Road and were taken into custody.
All three suspects are now in custody in Mississippi and warrants have been issued for the suspects.
According to Memphis police, Said Awad, age 41, has been charged with Especially Aggravated Robbery, Aggravated Assault, and Convicted Felon in Possession of a Handgun. Hmalda Saleh, age 26, has been charged with Especially Aggravated Robbery, and Ayed Khawaf, age 34, has been charged with Especially Aggravated Robbery and Convicted Felon in Possession of a Handgun.
The Southaven Police Department posted the Memphis Police release on the incident and added, “Strong partnerships with fellow governmental agencies are essential to safety in our community. By working together, we strengthen our efforts and create safer communities for everyone.”
