Southaven police detain suspects in shots fired incident, de-escalate situation with armed man
SOUTHAVEN, Miss. – The Southaven Police Department responded to two separate, serious incidents Thursday morning, detaining several individuals after a shots-fired report on Dorchester Drive and later taking an armed man into custody following a mental health crisis on Grandview Cove.
The first incident occurred at approximately 8 a.m. when officers were dispatched to Dorchester Drive for a report of shots fired. According to a statement, police located and detained a group of individuals believed to be involved. A firearm recovered at the scene was later identified as having been reported stolen.
No injuries were reported in the Dorchester Drive incident. Officials confirmed the event did not happen on school grounds and there is no ongoing threat to the community. In a separate and unrelated event Thursday, officers responded to Grandview Cove regarding a suicidal subject who was armed with a firearm. Police said the individual was experiencing a psychiatric episode and was uncooperative.
After a lengthy attempt to de-escalate the situation, officers successfully and safely placed the individual into custody. Officials described it as an isolated incident.
