Southaven mayor, aldermen sworn into office for a new term

June 30, 2025 – It was a very short and simple ceremony at the Snowden House in Southaven Monday afternoon when Mayor Darren Musselwhite and the Board of Aldermen were sworn into office for the next four years.

The group is a familiar one, except for one new board member. Judith Jenkins-Lewis becomes the new Ward 1 representative, replacing Kristian Kelly, who chose this year not to run for reelection.

Beginning with Musselwhite, followed by each aldermen, the oath of office was administered by City Clerk Andrea Mullen.

The first board meeting for the new body will be Tuesday, July 1, beginning at 6 p.m.

Jenkins-Lewis said she has been to several board meetings to learn about past discussions and looks forward now to taking part and having more of a voice in city affairs.

The new Ward 1 alderwoman said West End revitalization is high on her list of priorities.

“We’re excited about McDonald’s coming back,” Jenkins-Lewis said. “We’re glad that Big Lots is opening back up. Great things are happening on the west side and we’re going to do some great things for the west side. It’s a very big thing to me and to the city.”
