Southaven Animal Shelter named ‘Best of 2025’ for excellence in animal care
The Southaven Animal Shelter has been recognized as the “Best of 2025” by BusinessRate, a Better Business Bureau-accredited national information technology company, according to a recent report from Mayor Darren Musselwhite.
The distinction, which Mayor Musselwhite proudly announced in his blog post, is based on the shelter’s high marks from objective consumer online reviews. BusinessRate specifically evaluates organizations using this data rather than subjective rating factors such as voting.
“I’m more than a little proud of this one!” Mayor Musselwhite stated, congratulating and thanking the Animal Control Division team.
The Mayor reserved special praise for Animal Control Director Perry Mason, a 19-year veteran of the city’s Animal Control Division. Musselwhite credited Mason’s “standards of excellence” and “compassion for animals” as the driving force behind the division’s success.
The work of the division extends beyond common domestic pets, with Mayor Musselwhite noting that Mason and his team have solved problems involving horses, pigs, snakes, and even complex residential rodent infestations.
Mayor Musselwhite concluded his report by calling Mason an inspiration and affirming that the city is “blessed to have him on our team.”
