Sample ballots now available for November election

Sample ballots have been finalized for the Nov. 5 general election in DeSoto County.  

All voters in the county will be casting ballots for electors for President and Vice President, First District Congressman and for the U.S. Senate seat now held by U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker.  

There are nine candidates listed on the ballot for President and Vice President. In addition to the two major candidates from the Republican and Democratic parties, candidates representing the Libertarian, Green, Mississippi Constitution, and four independent candidates are listed.  

Wicker is running for re-election against Democratic challenger Ty Pinkins for U.S. Senate and Dianne Dodson Black is challenging Cong. Trent Kelly’s bid for re-election to Congress.  

Voters will find ballots for Mississippi Supreme Court Justice in District 3, Positions 1 and 2. Robert “Bobby” Chamberlin and Jimmy Maxwell are running unopposed.  

There are also races that are specific to certain districts in DeSoto County. For instance in the area covered by the Yazoo MS Delta Levee Board, Robert Sayle Jr. is running unopposed. 

Election Commissioners are up for a vote in Districts 1,3, and 5. Laura Edler (District 1) and Chad Engelke (District 3) are running unopposed for re-election, while David Ross is being challenged for re-election by Peggy Robbins.  

Two seats on the DeSoto County School Board are also on the ballot.  Jerald Wheeler is unopposed for re-election to represent District 3, while in District 4, incumbent Sheila Riley is being challenged by Todd Mayo.
