Oct. 30, 2024 – Northwest Mississippi Community College’s Fine Arts Choirs Fall Concert “Color All Maps New” is set to take place on Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. at the Heindl Center for the Performing Arts on the Senatobia campus.
This concert is an a cappella choral work that the Ranger Chorale is performing by New Orleans composer, Dylan Tran.
“The work is set to poetry by Jack B. Bedell, which talks about his family’s experience living on land that is slowly being lost to rising waters due to climate change,” said Dr. Alex Belohlavek, director of choral activities. “It’s a deeply personal reflection of the way the climate crisis is affecting individuals and families along the Gulf Coast.”
Dr. Belohlavek explained that the music itself showcases Tran’s interest in contemporary polyphony which is a type of musical texture consisting of two or more simultaneous lines of independent melody.
This concert will also feature Ranger Consort and Northwest Singers will be performing works from the Renaissance to the present music.
Admission to the concert is free and the public is welcome to attend.
