New prosecutor added in District Attorney’s office

Oct. 30, 2024 – Michael Steele was officially sworn in today as a prosecutor for the DeSoto County District Attorney’s Office. The Honorable Gerald Chatham, Sr. administered the oath during a formal ceremony welcoming Steele to the team of prosecutors serving the 23rd Judicial District.

Steele is a graduate of the University of Mississippi and holds a law degree from Mississippi College School of Law.

“This position is part of the additional prosecutors approved by legislators last session to better align our new district with others in the state,” said District Attorney Matthew Barton. “It was certainly needed and we are proud to welcome Michael, along with the added support this role brings to our team.”

Michael Steele is eager to serve DeSoto County in his new role, utilizing his academic accomplishments and legal training. As a member of the District Attorney’s team, he will be integral to the ongoing mission of pursuing justice and ensuring community safety.
