Lewisburg High School announced Monday morning, April 3, that Dr. Joey Lott would become the new Choir Director for the school.
The Batesville native is a graduate of Northwest Mississippi Community College and Delta State University, where Lott earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in music performance. Lott followed that by earning a Master’s degree in vocal performance from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and in 2014 received a Doctorate at the Robert Webber Institute for Worship Studies in Jacksonville, Florida.
A name familiar in vocal music circles in DeSoto County, Lott has been the Music and Worship Arts Director at Maples Memorial United Methodist Church in Olive Branch the past 22 years, directing multiple choirs, handbells, and orchestra.
“I have been a clinician on the local and national level,” Lott said in his introduction posted on social media Monday. “My solo career has given me opportunities to sing with the Nebraska Symphony Chamber Orchestra, Opera Omaha, All Star Dinner Theater, Pinewood Bowl Musical Theater, and many more.”
Lott also pointed out that he has accompanied the Lewisburg Middle and High School Choirs for 15 years.
