Mississippi Murder Suspect Izeekia Sanders Captured by U.S. Marshals in Indianapolis
A Mississippi murder suspect on the run after a deadly Delta shooting was captured October 7 in Indianapolis, Indiana, by the U.S. Marshals Service.
Izeekia Sanders, 20, was wanted by the Mound Bayou Police Department on charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in connection with a September 20 shooting in Mound Bayou, Mississippi. On that afternoon, officers responded to a report of shots fired near the 500 block of Stringer Avenue and found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. The victim, 20-year-old Armad Gant, was pronounced dead at the scene. A second male victim also suffered a gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated and later released.
An investigation by the Mound Bayou Police Department and the Bolivar County Sheriff’s Office led to a murder warrant for Sanders. Mound Bayou police then requested help from the U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force. During the investigation, Marshals developed information that Sanders had fled Mississippi and traveled to Indianapolis, and the task force enlisted the help of the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force.
Marshals located and arrested Sanders in a vehicle near the 1300 block of 30th Street in Indianapolis. He was transported to the Marion County Jail for processing and is awaiting extradition back to Mississippi. The Mound Bayou Police Department and the Bolivar County Sheriff’s Office say the murder investigation is continuing.
Sanders is charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder and is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
