Residents across North Mississippi and the Mississippi Delta will soon have access to federal disaster assistance following approval from Donald Trump, Gov. Tate Reeves announced.

The approval grants Individual Assistance under FEMA disaster declaration FEMA-4899-DR-MS for areas impacted by severe winter weather from January 23–27. A total of 36 counties, along with the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, are included in the declaration.

Counties approved for assistance include: Adams, Alcorn, Attala, Benton, Bolivar, Calhoun, Carroll, Claiborne, Coahoma, DeSoto, Grenada, Holmes, Humphreys, Issaquena, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lee, Leflore, Marshall, Montgomery, Panola, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Quitman, Sharkey, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Tunica, Union, Warren, Washington, Yalobusha and Yazoo.

The Individual Assistance program, administered by Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), provides financial help to eligible residents. Aid may include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, as well as low-interest loans to cover uninsured property losses. Additional programs are also available to help individuals and business owners recover from storm-related damage.

Residents who sustained losses during the January winter weather event can apply for assistance online at DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling FEMA at 1-800-621-3362. TTY users can call 1-800-462-7585. Applicants should reference disaster number DR-4899 when registering.

Reeves thanked the president for approving the request, noting the assistance will help Mississippi communities recover from the widespread winter storm impacts.
