July 18 – After about 40 years in the Memphis-Mid-South area, landscape firm Michael Hatcher and Associates recently began a venture into a new territory by expanding operations to a new Huntsville, Alabama location.  Hatcher and Associates announced the expansion earlier this month, a move the company has had in the works over the past 8-10 months.

“We are providing landscape construction and installation by way of the construction projects,” said CEO Russ Sneed about the new Huntsville location. “We are also providing service like we do in the Memphis area for commercial maintenance properties.”

Hatcher also has the Master Lawn treatment company, which Sneed said should also expand into Huntsville sometime next year.

Since its beginnings, Hatcher and Associates now has more than 200 employees. Sneed said the success of the company over its time in business made this the right time to look at other market areas.

“We can’t stay status quo for all of our families, our business and current customers, as well as our future families that will someday be part of Michael Hatcher and Associates,” Sneed said. “We have to make sure we diversify our customer and service base to be able to have an opportunity for continued growth.”

In a news release, Hatcher said he was excited the company is putting roots down in Huntsville, an area which Sneed said Hatcher has been interested in for a number of years.

“Our focus on customer service and the highest standards of quality and safety have earned us one of the most respected names on the landscape scene in the Memphis Metropolitan Area,” Hatcher said. “We look forward to bringing that same level of skill and professionalism to our clients in Huntsville, Madison County, and the surrounding areas in North Alabama.”

Huntsville is a demographic for the landscaping firm similar to the Memphis-Olive Branch metro area, with similar-type landscaping needs. Sneed also said there was a demand for the services that Hatcher could fill in what is known as the “Rocket City.”

“A lot of our current contractor and current commercial maintenance clients in Memphis have properties in Huntsville and they have asked us for a location in Huntsville, so we can provide services to them in the new geographic area,” he said.

For the future, what is today Huntsville could be added to with other locations for the landscaping firm, as Sneed said it will look for more growth over the next 5-10 years.

“I would expect us to continue healthy growth in the Southeast, or what I call the SEC states,” he said. “It’s not just growing to get bigger, but we want to consistently grow organically about 15 percent each year. It diversifies our risk, so I would assume in another year we’d be working on another expansion into a new market in the Southeast.”
