MDOT updates DeSoto, North Mississippi road projects
BATESVILLE, Miss. — Two major DeSoto County highway projects are moving forward as the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) releases its latest construction update for north Mississippi, highlighting improvements on I‑55/I‑69 and State Route 302 (Goodman Road).
DeSoto County Projects Lead Regional Construction Update
I‑55/I‑69 Mill and Overlay
MDOT reports steady progress on the mill and overlay of roughly four miles of I‑55 and I‑69 between I‑269 and Church Road.
- Northbound and southbound lanes, along with shoulders, have received new asphalt.
- The final surface layer on the main travel lanes is complete.
- Remaining work includes ramp paving and permanent striping.
- Construction paused for winter and will resume in spring, with completion expected spring 2026.
The $5.3 million project is being handled by Lehman‑Roberts Company of Memphis.
State Route 302 (Goodman Road) Mill and Overlay
A second major DeSoto County project will begin in spring 2026, resurfacing approximately eight miles of Goodman Road from Airways Boulevard to U.S. 78.
- All work will take place at night to reduce traffic disruptions for commuters.
- The $10 million contract was awarded to APAC–Tennessee, Inc.
- Completion is scheduled for fall 2026.

MDOT also provided updates on several ongoing projects across the region, including:
- Bridge replacements on State Route 9 in Calhoun County — $24 million project, completion spring 2026.
- U.S. 51 bridge replacements in Yalobusha County — $20.1 million project, completion summer 2026.
- U.S. 51 bridge over the Yocona River — $12.2 million project, completion spring 2026.
- Roundabout construction at SR 7 and University Avenue in Oxford — $4.9 million project, completion spring 2026.
- U.S. 51 bridge replacements in Carroll County — $15.9 million project, completion fall 2026.
- U.S. 278/SR 6 mill and overlay in Panola County — $13.6 million project, completion fall 2025.
- State Route 7 widening in Oxford — $138.7 million project, completion fall 2029.
