MDOT planning road closures in DeSoto County beginning Sunday
DeSoto County drivers are being advised to plan ahead this coming week as the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) prepares for utility and road work on two of the county’s busier thoroughfares.
Sunday Utility Work on Highway 305
The disruptions begin this Sunday afternoon, Jan. 11, on State Route 305. MDOT officials say intermittent closures will occur at the intersection of State Route 305 and Byhalia Road from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. These brief stoppages are necessary for utility work. Law enforcement will be on hand to direct traffic, but motorists should be prepared to stop and remain alert for crews working near the roadway.
Mid-Week Lane Closures on Goodman Road
The orange barrels will move to a different part of the county starting Monday morning. According to information from the DeSoto County Government, MDOT will be performing road work on Goodman Road between Airways Blvd. and Highway 78.
Travelers should expect the following:
- What: Right lane closures in both eastbound and westbound directions.
- When: Starting Monday, Jan. 12 at 8:30 a.m. through Thursday, Jan. 15 at 4:30 p.m.
- Where: Goodman Road (Hwy 302) from Airways Blvd. to the I-22/Hwy 78 interchange.
While the road will remain open, the loss of the right lanes in both directions is expected to slow things down during the morning and afternoon commutes through Olive Branch and Southaven.
As always, MDOT and local officials urge drivers to slow down and stay off their phones while navigating these work zones to ensure the safety of the crews on the ground.
