MBI investigating death of Memphis man at DeSoto County Detention Center
HERNANDO, Miss. — The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is investigating the death of a 42-year-old Memphis man who died after being found unresponsive in his cell at the DeSoto County Adult Detention Center, authorities confirmed Wednesday.
Reccardo Deshun Walton was discovered by corrections officers in his housing pod. According to a statement from the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office, officers immediately performed CPR and other life-saving measures until emergency medical services arrived.
Walton was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto, where he was later pronounced dead.
Investigation Details
Walton had been in custody for approximately 22 days prior to the incident. Records indicate he was being held on charges of possession of methamphetamine with a firearm.
While the exact cause of death remains under investigation by the MBI, sheriff’s officials stated that there were no immediate signs of foul play evident at the scene.
