Manhunt Underway for Armed and Dangerous Suspect with DeSoto County Involvement

Authorities are warning North Mississippi residents to be on high alert as the search continues for Ewel “Bubba” Scott, a fugitive considered armed and dangerous who is wanted in multiple counties.

Scott is sought by the Tallahatchie County and Panola County sheriff’s offices on charges of possession of stolen property, burglary, and grand larceny, with additional charges expected. He managed to elude capture on Monday after being spotted in Enid riding a stolen ATV. Officers recovered the ATV and a stolen .410 shotgun, but Scott escaped—leaving behind even his shoes.

A firearm and a stolen Gator utility vehicle remain unaccounted for, and law enforcement warns that Scott is likely seeking food, water, and another means of transportation. Authorities say he typically travels at night.

The DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office has played a key role in the search, deploying K-9 tracking units, drones, and a helicopter to assist in the manhunt. The effort also includes the U.S. Marshals Service task force, the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, and sheriff’s offices from Tallahatchie, Panola, and Yalobusha counties, along with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks.

Residents in the Teasdale and Enid areas are urged to secure their homes, vehicles, ATVs, and any valuables, and to call 911 immediately if they spot Scott. Authorities stress that the fugitive should not be approached under any circumstances.
