Man sentenced for shooting woman after sex refusal
July 31, 2025 – The DeSoto County District Attorney’s Office has announced that Steven Robertson, age 78 of Hernando, has been sentenced to a total of 30 years in the Mississippi Department of Corrections for two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Circuit Judge Celeste Wilson handed down the sentence, ordering 15 years for each charge to run concurrently.
“At 78 years old, this is effectively a life sentence for Mr. Robertson, who will live the rest of his life in a striped jumpsuit,” said District Attorney Barton. “Our office takes violent crime seriously in DeSoto County, and we will continue to hold offenders fully accountable when they endanger others.”
Court records and testimony revealed that Robertson shot a woman in the leg after she refused to get naked and have sex with him. During the confrontation, Robertson’s son attempted to disarm him, at which point Robertson also fired shots at his son.
The case was investigated by the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department and prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Ben Weathers.
