Man charged with murder in Horn Lake shooting
HORN LAKE, Miss. — A 21-year-old man remains in custody on a $1 million bond after a Saturday night altercation escalated into a fatal shooting, authorities said.
Officers with the Horn Lake Police Department responded to reports of gunfire in the 5800 block of Shannon Drive at approximately 8:05 p.m. on Jan. 3. Upon arrival, police discovered 48-year-old Kevin Dewayne “Hoss” Durrett suffering from a gunshot wound to the back.

Durrett was transported to a hospital in Memphis, where he later died from his injuries.
Investigators identified the suspect as Nathaniel Harvey, age 21 of Horn Lake. Harvey was arrested and charged with murder in connection with the incident.
According to witness statements, the events began with a physical or verbal altercation between Durrett and another adult male at the residence. Police noted that while Harvey was not a participant in the initial fight, he allegedly fired the shot that struck Durrett.
Harvey is currently being held at the DeSoto County Jail. The Horn Lake Police Department stated that the investigation is still active.
