The Southaven Police Department on Tuesday released information about a Sunday night motor vehicle accident that claimed the life of a Lewisburg High School student athlete.
Police officers were called to the area of Swinnea Road and Russ Cove in Southaven, north of Church Road, about 9:30 p.m.
On arrival, officers learned that the driver, a 16-year old juvenile, was dead at the scene.
Police said investigators have since reconstructed the scene.
It’s been learned the crash claimed the life of Morgan Howell, a sophomore at Lewisburg High School who played football and was part of the school’s first wrestling team this past season. In football, Howell played running back and linebacker.
An opportunity to honor and remember Howell will be held Wednesday, May 3 in the high school gymnasium, starting at 6:30 p.m. Doors will open at 6 p.m.
Howell has been remembered well by those in the Lewisburg community.
“Morgan was a kindhearted person and a tough kid; he will be greatly missed,” said Lewisburg wrestling coach Cody Gilbert. “Please, pray for his family and friends during this difficult time.”
The Lewisburg football program posted the following to honor Howell for his presence on the team.
A GoFundMe account was set up to help the family with funeral costs. The page for Morgan Howell had already surpassed its $20,000 goal as of Tuesday afternoon, May 2.
A celebration of life service for Morgan Howell will be held on Saturday, May 6, starting at 10 a.m. It will be held at SouthPoint Church in Southaven.
