The Northwest Mississippi Community College Les Fauves art club will host its semiannual sale with items sold benefiting the art students and faculty. The sale is April 25 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Northwest Art Gallery on the Senatobia campus.

The Les Fauves art sale is a biannual tradition that started years ago by former art instructors Jac Young and Lane Tutor. The name of the art club stems from an old art movement symbolizing the wildness of artists and their lifestyles.

“We are very excited for our sale this semester,” said Lucia H. Nelson, Northwest art instructor and Early College mentor. “Our students have been working hard to create works of all kinds. Most of the works will be student created, but we do have some work for sale by our art faculty. There will be pottery and ceramic sculptures, drawings, paintings, and mixed media pieces.”

This art sale isn’t just a great opportunity to find some new pieces for your home but also see all the skills that students work on while they’re students and how they’re growing in their craft. These pieces are often created in the classrooms surrounding the gallery for classwork as the students develop their burgeoning skills. Nelson said that every class brings them closer to each finished piece.

“At our last sale we had students who created some interesting handmade jewelry that was very popular, and we hope to have similar items at our spring sale,” Nelson said. “We also had several students who got really interested in printmaking, so we will have many prints at this sale. Some items that are new to our sale include notecards, buttons, and stickers. Our students have discovered the sticker and button makers at the library, and our librarians have been so incredibly helpful with the software and equipment.”
