Hollowell, Johnson Sworn Into New Judgeships

HERNANDO, Miss. — Wayne Douglas Hollowell III was officially sworn in this morning as Circuit Judge for the newly created 21st Circuit Court District. The oath was administered by Judge Gerald Chatham Sr. during the DeSoto County Board of Supervisors meeting.
The Mississippi Legislature established the new district to meet the growing judicial needs of DeSoto County. Gov. Tate Reeves appointed Judge Hollowell to the post, citing his extensive legal experience. His term is set to run through January 2027.
Hollowell previously served as the First District Justice Court Judge since 2021. His background also includes roles as a judge pro tem for Horn Lake and Walls municipal courts and as a public defender for Byhalia Municipal Court.
Billy Johnson Named New First District Justice Court Judge
In a separate ceremony, Billy Johnson was officially sworn in Tuesday by Judge Percy Lynchard to serve as the new First District Justice Court Judge for DeSoto County. Johnson succeeds Judge Hollowell, whose position became vacant following his new appointment.
Johnson, who has operated a private law practice in Hernando since 2022, brings a diverse legal background to the bench. His experience includes working as a guardian ad litem for the DeSoto County Youth Court, as a public defender for Horn Lake, Hernando, and Senatobia, and as a prosecutor for Coldwater.
