Hernando Veterans Day parade honors local heroes with community spirit

HERNANDO, Miss. — Hundreds gathered in downtown Hernando on Monday morning to honor military veterans during the city’s annual Veterans Day Parade, a tradition that began in 2017 and continues to unite the community in patriotic celebration.

The parade stepped off at 10 a.m. along Commerce Street to Courthouse Square, featuring veterans from every branch of the U.S. military, school bands, ROTC units, civic organizations, and first responders. Spectators lined the sidewalks waving American flags, including students from local schools who cheered as veterans passed by.

The Hernando Veterans Day Parade was paused in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic but returned with renewed energy in 2021. Organizers say the event continues to grow thanks to foundational sponsors, volunteers, and support from local businesses.
