Hernando aldermen approve Renasant Park expansion project

Dec 5, 2024-The Hernando Board of Alderman this week approved a $9.2 million construction project to expand and improve Renasant Park, addressing long-standing community needs and enhancing the quality of life for residents.

This project marks the first phase of a long-term plan to create a park that serves the community for generations to come.

Key features of the project include:

  • Four artificial turf baseball/softball fields
  • A concession stand and pavilion
  • Two Modern restroom facilities to serve the fields and walking track
  • An 18-hole disc golf course
  • Expanded infrastructure and parking spaces
  • A 3.5-acre native wildflower and native grass meadow

Construction is expected to begin soon, with completion anticipated by the fall of 2026.

Ward 4 Alderman Chad Wicker calls it a significant step in addressing the recreational needs of Hernando’s residents.

“This project is about meeting the practical needs of our community,” said Wicker. “For too long, our park facilities have fallen short of what families and individuals in Hernando deserve. These improvements will provide safe, modern, and enjoyable spaces for our citizens to gather, play, and enjoy the outdoors.”

The $9.2 million project is an investment in the future of Hernando’s Parks system, focusing on practical, family-friendly amenities that will benefit the community for years to come.
