Heindl Center for the Performing Arts hosts Cal Ripken, Jr.

Renown former baseball player, Cal Ripken, Jr. is coming to Northwest Mississippi Community College’s Heindl Center for the Performing Arts on Feb. 22, at 7:30 p.m.

“We are honored to host this legendary baseball hall-of-famer, whose remarkable career celebrates the dedication it takes to become a true champion,” said Dr. Blake Bostick, director of the Heindl Center. “Known as the ‘Iron Man,’ Cal Ripken, Jr. solidified his legacy by playing an astonishing 2,632 consecutive games for the Baltimore Orioles. A 19-time All-Star, two-time American League MVP, and Baseball Hall of Fame Inductee. He defied expectations and redefined the shortstop position, leaving an indelible mark on the sport.”

On May 30, 1982, Ripken started his streak which is the longest stretch of consecutive games played in baseball history. He redefined what the shortstop position is and regularly hit home runs during his baseball career. In 2001, Ripken retired and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2007.
