Gators’ defensive coach victim of stabbing at distribution center

An assistant football coach at Lake Cormorant High School has been confirmed as the fatal victim of a stabbing incident at the Kroger Distribution Center in Memphis.
Head coach/athletic director Nick Nester said Jarcoby Hopson Sr. was the victim in the stabbing, which took place Thursday morning at the Center, located at 5079 Bledsoe Cove in Memphis. Memphis police released the initial call on social media:
As of Thursday evening, the suspect has not been identified, although one person has been detained for questioning. Friday update: Suspect has been identified as Anderson Todd, now charged with second degree murder.
Nester couldn’t confirm the reason for the altercation, although reports indicate the dispute had to do with football.
Hopson, father of standout Gator football player and Ole Miss commit Jarcoby Jr. was a defensive coach for Lake Cormorant. Nester said he was a paraprofessional at the high school while working full time at the distribution center.
Jarcoby Jr. posted this tribute to his father after the incident.
Kroger released the following statement regarding the incident:
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of an associate and tragic incident that occurred at the Memphis distribution center. We have been in contact with the associate’s family and offer our condolences to all impacted by this tragic loss. Counseling services for our associates at the distribution center have been initiated.”
