Food drive at Soccer Complex set for March 28 to benefit Hernando pantry

The Soccer Complex and event partners Lehman-Roberts, A Granite Company, and Memphis Stone & Gravel, A Granite Company will hold a food donation drive during soccer games Saturday, March 28, organizers said. The drive will benefit the Hernando/Nesbit Interfaith Council on Poverty, organizers said.

Organizers asked attendees to place donations in a bin near the pavilion during the games. They said the drive aims to restock items for local pantry distribution.

Immediate pantry needs, organizers said, include canned chicken, canned tuna, canned soup, canned fruit, peanut butter and jelly.

Organizers said last fall the effort collected 195 items to support the Hernando Food Pantry. They said that helped serve 172 households (393 individuals) in October, 176 households (415 individuals) in November and 155 households (362 individuals) in December.

Organizers urged community members to bring donations to the Soccer Complex on March 28 to help neighbors in need.
