DeSoto Family Theatre seeks dog to play Porthos in upcoming production
The DeSoto Family Theatre is looking for a dog to play Porthos, J.M. Barrie’s faithful companion, in its upcoming production of “Finding Neverland.” The theater seeks a medium to large-sized, well-trained dog that is comfortable around people, music, lights, and applause.
The ideal candidate is a friendly, calm dog, preferably a shaggy or doodle-style breed such as a Labradoodle, Goldendoodle, Sheepadoodle, or Portuguese Water Dog. Very small breeds, terriers, and Chihuahuas are not suitable for this role.
Rehearsals are set to begin in late June, with performances scheduled from July 31 to August 2 at the Heindl Center for the Performing Arts. The production team requests interested owners to submit a recent photo, breed and size details, and a brief description of the dog’s temperament and training to dft@dftonline.org or through the theater’s Facebook page.
Those interested in having their dog make a theatrical debut are encouraged to apply. The theater aims to find a lovable canine to bring Porthos to life on stage.
