DeSoto County Absentee Voting Now Open in Hernando
In-person DeSoto County absentee voting for the Nov. 3 general election is now underway. Voters who qualify to cast an absentee ballot can do so at the DeSoto County Circuit Clerk’s Office inside the historic courthouse in Hernando, according to an alert from DeSoto County government. In-person absentee voting began Monday, Sept. 21.
Where and when to vote absentee in DeSoto County
All in-person absentee voting takes place at one location:
- Location: DeSoto County Circuit Clerk’s Office, historic DeSoto County Courthouse, 2535 Highway 51 South, Hernando, MS 38632
- Weekday hours: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Saturday, Oct. 24: 8 a.m. to noon
- Saturday, Oct. 31: 8 a.m. to noon
The deadline to vote absentee in person is noon on Saturday, Oct. 31, three days before Election Day. Voters who wait until the final Saturday should plan for a possible line.
Who can vote absentee
Mississippi does not offer no-excuse early voting, so absentee voting is limited to voters who meet one of the reasons allowed under state law. Common examples include voters who will be away from DeSoto County on Election Day, voters 65 or older, people with a temporary or permanent disability, and voters whose work hours keep them from reaching the polls while they are open. The Mississippi Secretary of State’s website lists the full set of qualifying reasons.
Voters casting an absentee ballot in person should bring an acceptable photo ID, as required under Mississippi’s voter ID law.
