DeSoto Civic Garden Club participates in December activities

By Jo Sweatt

The DeSoto Civic Garden Club’s December meeting was held at the home of Emilie Michael in Southaven. Dawn Weiss showed how to make sachets of Christmas Simmering stovetop Potpourri Mix. She explained the process of drying various slices of citrus fruits and apples she brought ready to be used.

In her presentation, she also handed out a large selection of herbs and spices to use. Local greens available in your own yard to clip such as pine, spruce, cypress and junipers can be great additions to this mix. Each member present filled a bag to take home to scent their homes with a most wonderful natural scent.

At the conclusion of this presentation, garden club member Sandy Noble showed a creative way to fold a square cloth napkin into the shape of a Christmas tree, a festive addition to the holiday table.

The DeSoto Civic Garden Club is a member of The National Garden Clubs Inc., Deep South Garden Clubs, Inc., The Garden Clubs of Mississippi, Inc. and Hills and Delta District.
