Child entrepreneur, author, and TEDx speaker stresses imagination and perseverance
What were you doing when you were eight years old? In the case of young Josiah Avery, he is already a multifaceted entrepreneur, author, investor, and public speaker, with a clear message: Don’t give up on your dreams or your imagination.
The homeschooled student, who recently presented at TEDx on the topic of “hungernomics,” is an advocate for using creativity to solve real-world problems. His TEDx talk focused on addressing food deserts, areas with limited access to fresh, healthy food.
“I see people on the street begging for food, and they’re in a food desert of their own,” Josiah said. “Every poor person you see with no food, they’re in the food desert.”
Josiah’s entrepreneurial journey started with stock investing. He began learning about the market through teachings from business mentors and is currently practicing with paper trading. His interest in business led him to write and publish a book, titled, “Max Dreams Big.” The story is about a cat named Max who wants to sell other alley cats on his dreams.
“I was super creative, and I always tried to make a book that I could read,” Josiah said. The book became an income-producing asset (IPA), which he sells to help others.
In addition to his business ventures, Josiah has a wide range of interests. He’s learning to play golf and, despite initial struggles, is now “hitting like a pro” and is determined to win a trophy. He also embraces his imagination, which he says can’t be tamed.
“You never know what’s next,” Josiah said. “Everything is a surprise.”
Looking to the future, Josiah hopes to be an entrepreneur, an architect, or a builder. He believes his experiences have taught him the value of perseverance.
“Don’t give up and don’t try to tame your imagination,” he said.
