Business beat: Hurst promoted to Southern Bancorp Division President
Hurst will oversee lending operations in seven of Southern Bancorp’s markets
March 19, 2025 – Southern Bancorp Bank, a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), today announced the promotion of Jeremy Hurst to Division President. Hurst has been with Southern Bancorp since 2017, most recently serving as Market President of the bank’s DeSoto County market.
“I am excited to welcome Jeremy into his new role of Division President,” said Jeff Frazier, Regional Executive. “For nearly 10 years, Jeremy has been an incredible asset to both our mission-focused organization and the communities we serve, supporting individuals, families, and small businesses with the tools, resources, and capital needed to build bright financial futures. I look forward to the impact his expertise and leadership will continue to deliver to the people and places we serve in his new role.”
Hurst brings 20 years of banking experience to his new position, a career that dates back to 2005 when he worked as a part-time teller while attending college. He joined Southern Bancorp in 2017 at its El Dorado, Arkansas branch, and was named the Commercial Lender of the Year during his first year at the bank. He would soon move to the CDFI’s Hernando branch where he has spent the past seven years, first as Senior Vice President of Commercial Lending, and later as City President, Market President, and ultimately his new role of Division President.
As Division President, Hurst will oversee all lending operations in seven of Southern Bancorp’s markets: Clarksdale, Hernando, and Olive Branch, as well as Blytheville, Jonesboro, Marion, and West Memphis, Arkansas.
A native of El Dorado, Hurst graduated from El Dorado High School in 2001 before attending the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance in 2007. In 2015, he earned his Master of Business Administration from Southern Arkansas University. He has also earned certifications from the ABA National Commercial Lender School at Southern Methodist University and the Paul W. Barret Jr. Graduate School of Banking.
Hurst is actively engaged in his local community, including as a member of Rotary Club of Hernando, Chair of the Finance Committee for Hernando Methodist Church and member of Church Council, and the Krewe of Hernando. He lives in Hernando with his wife, Sunni, and their four children.
