Arkabutla flash flood watch canceled
One item put in place after the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers discovered a potential dam failure at Arkabutla Lake last month has been removed.
The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Flash Flood Watch when the potential breach was discovered in early May. The watch was put in place for counties around the Coldwater River where water would enter if the breach would turn into a larger issue. DeSoto County was one of the counties that the flash flood watch was issued for.
At mid-afternoon Tuesday, June 6, the National Weather Service released a statement that canceled the flash flood watch.
NWS said the watch was canceled due to lowered pool levels. The Weather Service did add that the watch would be reissued if water levels required it.
In mid-May, the Vicksburg District of the Corps of Engineers said that dam failure or a breach was not imminent.
