Andrews named top Sex Offender Registry Compliance Officer

Aug 16, 2024 – DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Bryan Andrews has been named 2024 Sex Offender Registry Top Compliance Officer for the State of Mississippi. This award recognizes outstanding achievements of individuals managing and enforcing sex offender registration and notification programs. 

“Sgt. Andrews’ dedication and effectiveness in managing and  enforcing sex offender registration and notification programs are truly exceptional,” said DCSO Capt. Jeremy Dodson.

Andrews began his career with the Sheriff’s Office in 2010 and is a Mississippi Law Enforcement Officer Training Academy graduate. He worked in the jail and the Uniformed Patrol Division before transferring to the Criminal Investigations Division in 2020. 

In July 2021, he was tasked with taking over the management of the Sex Offender Registry  (SOR) for the Sheriff’s Office. Since taking over the SOR, Andrews registered over 260 offenders, completed 950 address checks, and has led over 2,000 investigations, including tips. Andrews submitted over 90 cases for violation of the Sex Offender Registry with successful prosecution.

He was recognized as the 2022 Deputy of  the Year for the Sheriff’s Office as well as Newcomer of the Year in 2022 at the Sex Offender Registry Conference Awards for the state. Andrews has also been instrumental in updating the state’s Sex Offender Registry program.

Sgt. Andrews and his team recently completed a proactive enforcement operation, named  DeSoto Defense, which brought 20 new cases for failure to register, including locating multiple offenders residing in DeSoto County without registering. 

They completed 85 address checks, and generated 29 new felony cases during the operation.
