Arrest and charges against driver of stolen ambulance

The person who drove an ambulance into Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven this week has been arrested and charged. Southaven police said Kandanice Stevenson, age 34 of Southaven, Thursday was being held. Stevenson is charged with:

  • Felony taking a motor vehicle
  • Disturbance in public place
  • Malicious mischief felony
  • Aggravated assault on a police/fire/school official

Officials say an ambulance was driven into Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven Wednesday morning and crashed into the building at the emergency entrance area. There were minor injuries to one staff member.

Stevenson was reportedly involved in an accident earlier in the day and was being taken to the hospital when she allegedly was able to crash the ambulance into the building.

Stevenson remains in the DeSoto County Adult Detention Center in Hernando on $500,000 bond.
