Ambulance driven into Baptist-DeSoto hospital
Officials say an ambulance was driven into Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven Wednesday morning. Police said the ambulance crashed into the building at the emergency entrance area, adding there were minor injuries to one staff member and an unidentified suspect is in custody.
A hospital statement said patients, visitors and staff are safe. Damage to the emergency department is being assessed. Baptist-DeSoto is asking that any ambulance traffic be sent to other hospitals at this time, but no other building operations have been affected.
“We are working with the Southaven Police Department to investigate the situation,” according to a statement from Baptist-DeSoto. “The safety of our patients, staff and visitors is always our top priority, and that is our focus at this time.”
Southaven police officials say this is still an active investigation and will provide more details when available.
