18-wheeler blowout blocks I-55 traffic in Southaven
Oct. 29, 2024 – No one was hurt but a crash Tuesday morning caused a backup on the interstate in Southaven for a while on Tuesday.
According to Southaven Police an 18-wheeler traveling south on I-55 had a blowout on the passenger side front tire of the tractor cab. The blowout took place just north of the bridge on the interstate south of Goodman Road.
The blowout caused the truck to strike the bridge rail on the west side of the roadway. Police say that after striking the bridge, the 18-wheeler ran off the roadway and down the embankment, where it came to rest in the field on the west side of I-55.
There was no fuel leak and the trailer was empty according to police, but both lanes of the interstate had to be closed during investigation and cleanup. The roadway was cleared about 1 p.m.
The crash was one of two accidents that took place in the area Tuesday, both without serious injury.
