The City of Olive Branch said the senior center held a summer cookout with help from the Parks and Recreation Department and volunteers. The center is open to residents 50 and older and offers a range of programs, the city said.

The retailer said its Summer Sidewalk Sale begins Thursday, July 9, featuring $10, $20 and $30 racks, a 50% off sale rack and $10 mystery bags. The store said the event will coincide with Mississippi’s tax-free holiday.

Trey Bledsoe has been sworn in as the new fire chief for Southaven, succeeding retired Chief Danny Scallions. Bledsoe has served the department since 1999.

At its most recent meeting, the Southaven Mayor and Board of Aldermen sworn in Trey Bledsoe as fire chief and extended the city’s tourism tax, city officials said.
