A 49-year-old pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene after a vehicle-pedestrian crash on Goodman Road late Thursday, the Horn Lake Police Department said.

Community Management Partners LLC said it has added Chateau Pointe in Southaven to its portfolio and will work with the board and homeowners to maintain the neighborhood.

The City of Olive Branch said the Police Department, Fire Department and Emergency Communications Department will hold a family Public Safety Night Thursday, July 30, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Olive Branch Municipal Park.

The Southaven Fire Department announced the promotion of Rick Carpenter to deputy chief, saying he will oversee departmental operations and provide strategic leadership.

Major Swan and Detective Chase will compete at the National LawFit Challenge, the organization that announced their entry said. Supporters said they will be cheered on as they face top law enforcement competitors.

A traffic update said the stretch was closed for an accident investigation but has since reopened; motorists were advised to use alternate routes.

The City of Southaven says Hal Guthrie Park received new playground equipment, a walking trail and a pavilion under the Parks Enhancement Project. The park is named for Army veteran Hal Guthrie Sr., the city said.

Organizers said a community campaign is seeking volunteers, donations and business sponsors to support first responders, including meal deliveries and gift bags.

A member said the Southaven Chamber of Commerce continued promoting his business and encouraged him to take on leadership roles, crediting the chamber with helping build the community.
